Biography

I have been taking photographs for 18 years and my interest started when I enrolled on a Media Arts Foundation course at Portsmouth University (England) and then went on to complete the degree in film, video & photography.

After graduating I worked on board cruise lines for the next few years shooting formal portraits, social events, weddings and travel/scenic.  My work took me to Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, Europe, Caribbean, Bahamas and East/West coast of the United States. During this time I developed a travel portfolio of interesting people and places.

In 2001 I moved to London and worked at a professional studio and lab, where I was a hand photographic printer.  This included printing fashion images or portraits for various magazines which included Marie Claire and Vogue.  During this time I developed my own fashion and hair portfolio and shot some work for various hairdressers and models, making use of the studio and darkroom.  I also carried on with portraiture, shooting professional studio headshots and creative portraits.

In late 2002 I uprooted and moved to Sydney, Australia.  During this time I carried on shooting professional portraits and fashion for up and coming stylists.

In the last 4 years  my work has taken on a new  and exciting direction in the form of Impressionist Art Photography.  I like to shoot flowers or landscapes in such a way that once printed on canvas, the image looks like a painting.  So far I have created numerous series and had a large exhibition space at the 2009 Sydney Dank’s St Festival.  Throughout the year I also set up various markets in Sydney to sell my small canvas and art prints.

I have always been interested in insects and the highlight for me so far has been the opportunity to volunteer at the Explorer’s Inn with Fauna Forever in the Peruvian Amazon.  During this amazing experience I photographed the numerous insects, spiders and butterflies there.   The butterfly images are used on the Explorer's Inn website to promote the eco lodge.

Last year I won 5 bronze awards in the International Aperture Awards.  This year one of my images made the final round of judging out of 40,000 international entries in the Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

This year I am a finalist in the Australian Museum's annual competition "Up Close & Spineless" where my image will be included in a travelling exhibition around Australia.  For more information visit their website
